Born in northern Italy—in a mountainous region renowned for quality, handcrafted footwear—SCARPA’s roots run 80 years deep. Despite being an industry leader in skiing, hiking, mountaineering, and climbing, in 2016 their website was out of date, not optimized for mobile users, and exceedingly difficult to maintain and update. They turned to us to build them a website worthy of the SCARPA name and heritage.
Our journey began by performing a deep analysis of both SCARPA and their competitor set in order to properly identify the brand’s position and identity. We crafted a new brand manifesto, defined consumer personas, and were able to effectively inform design direction for the new site. Since SCARPA is a time-honored, family-owned brand known for craftsmanship, this is what we wanted to convey visually. We built SCARPA’s website utilizing clean, product forward spaces and striking, inspiring alpine imagery—a direction very much in line with their Italian heritage.
Development of this vision was no small task. To do so we combined two different platforms—ecommerce and a content management system—allowing for a seamless UX experience and integration of brand content with an elevated product presentation. Users are easily—and enjoyably—able to learn about products and the brand as they move down the purchase path. We did this all in a way that allows the internal team at SCARPA to self-manage product offerings and content updates: giving them a new sense of ownership over their brand’s presence in the digital space.
